NEWS: Clean Bandit unveil "Come Over" music video

Clean Bandit are known for their fantastic music videos and "Come Over" is no exception. Today the band released the video for the sixth single taken from their debut album "New Eyes". "Come Over" is a reggae inspired track and features the vocals of cellist Grace Chatto and reggae artist Stylo G.
The music video for the track makes use of stunning scenery and visuals as well as costumes to create a really interesting and entertaining video. The video has two moods, a mysterious cold atmosphere to match the verses which shows Chatto up on a mountain top wearing a big white fur coat and shots of hounds pulling a sleigh.
The dancey chorus shows Stylo G dancing on a hill top and in a pool. By the second chorus the different scenes are combined showing a majestic Chatto rocking out in a big fur coat surrounded by other dancers.
There are also shots of violist Milan Neil Amin-Smith playing the violin amongst children all wearing the awesome Clean Bandit merchandise which you can buy here!
Overall it's a great video and track and one of my personal favourites from the album. The remix EP is also available for pre-order now and will be released 10th August.

MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW: Paloma Faith- Trouble With My Baby

Paloma is back with another stunning music video! She wowed us with the videos for "Can't Rely On You" and the intense "Only Love Can Hurt Like This" and now she's picking up the pace with her new single "Trouble With My Baby"

Visually this music video makes use of scenery to create something interesting. We see clips of Paloma walking through a desert to her male partner in the video who seems infatuated with her which basically means the whole desert scenes are a mirage.
In contrast to that we see Paloma performing in a bar being watched by her male partner which again adds to this idea he is obsessed with her. Overall the use of scenery and visuals is great and adds more detail to the story she's telling through this album.

The wardrobe is also super. The black outfit Paloma wears during her performances in the bar really works well and makes her even more desirable. The red outfit she's seen wearing in the desert also makes her look fierce and the use of the red suitcases and accessories to match is a really nice touch. Again Paloma has blonde hair in this video which also works really well for her.

On top of that we have a new remastered version of the track with new instruments and vocals from Paloma. The track sounds more acoustic and Paloma's vocals seem more vintage, a bit like Duffy's.

Overall it's a great video with stunning visuals and a fun atmosphere. It should do really well as a single and match the success of her other singles from the album.

M.I.A teases "Double Bubble Trouble" video with GIF

Later on this week M.I.A will be releasing the music video for her fantastic new single "Double Bubble Trouble" earlier today she revealed a GIF from the video on www.complex.com as well as confirming the video is to be self directed. The video will be released on her website later this week.

"Double Bubble Trouble" comes from the singer's fourth studio album "Matangi" released November last year. It contains lyrics from the mid 90s track "Trouble" by Shampoo.

MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW: Shakira- Dare (La La La)

Yesterday, Artist of the Month March 2014, Shakira released her new music video for her single "Dare (La La La), taken from her tenth studio album "Shakira". "Dare (La La La)" is an uptempo dance track and is also featured on the Fifa World Cup album this year! 

The music video is a fast paced fun video, showing various shots of Shakira dancing and walking through streets. It's an outdoorsy video and really fun to watch. There are also shots of Shakira dancing in the middle of a crowd which again adds to the fun. 

The style and wardrobe is also really cool as usual showing Shakira in a long skirt, leather and her hair down and swooshing around the way it should! The choice of locations also works really well, the use of the rainbow wall shown in the picture above is a really nice touch. 

Overall another great video from this era in Shakira's career. It reminds me of the younger Shakira and that although she may be more mature and have more responsibility she's still up for some good clean fun without having to snuggle up to Rihanna!

MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW: Lana Del Rey- West Coast

Well it's finally here! The music video for Lana Del Rey's brilliant new single "West Coast", the lead single from her highly anticipated third album "Ultraviolence" released in June.

The music video follows a similar style to Lana Del Rey's other material. It's sultry and dramatic and has a vintage look and feel to it which goes really well with Lana Del Rey's image and personality. The video has something for everyone, a young romance on a beach in black and white showing Lana and a male partner messing around with some friends which is displayed throughout the acoustic verses. For the chorus it switches to an older romance, Lana Del Rey in a car smoking a cigarette with an older man, which again follows this style from other videos such as "Ride". Then at the end for us visual lovers, Lana Del Rey in a red dress surrounded by flames over pictures of palm trees and scenery.
What I like about each scenario is that it coincides with a part of the song, the young beach romance for the verse, the older romance for the chorus and the flames and visuals for the last chorus.
Overall it's a great vintage video and shows off a rougher and even more vintage side to Lana Del Rey.

MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW: Wanna Control Myself- Florrie

Well it's finally here! The final music video from "Flawless Florrie's" EP "Sirens". This music video is for the track "Wanna Control Myself" and it's another visual masterpiece.
This music video takes a more sinister turn than the other videos from the "Sirens" EP. The track itself is pretty dark and spooky as is the video. It shows Florrie in dark streets, in dark arcades, just in darkness in general. Everything is dim and low toned to create a real sinister and troubled vibe.
The icing on the dark cake is Florrie's male partner. Unlike the guy in the "Free Falling" video this one actually looks pretty innocent however that innocence comes across as really quite deadly, a bit like a panda.
On top of that the wardrobe is great as usual as is the retro car Florrie is seen driving!
All in all a great video to end the "Sirens" EP era, now I'm just looking for an album!

Katy Perry- Birthday: MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW

Well Katy Perry's released another cracker of a music video! This one comes in the form of "Birthday" the fourth single from her album "PRISM".
The video shows Katy Perry dressed up as various eccentric characters who appear to be party entertainers but to be honest, are really crap at their jobs and cause more disturbance than entertainment.
However the video is insanely brilliant. It's out of the box and it has some cracker lines from some of the characters. Katy Perry shows off her charisma and ability to portray several characters at opposite ends of the spectrum.
While the video may seem odd or cheesy you can't criticise her imagination and the kind-heartedness of the video when she reveals her superstar identity at one of the parties.
I think this video will go down like marmite. You'll either love it or hate it, but I for one certainly love it!

Florrie- Free Falling: MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW

Today the flawless Florrie (which is basically her nickname now ok) released the second music video from her "Sirens" EP due to be released April this year. The second music video comes in the form of "Free Falling" and it contains some pretty nice visuals!

The video consists of shots of Florrie with a male partner in some really neat settings. I like how everything is really neat and empty, it has a sinister edge to it. The motionlessness of Florrie and her partner are also striking and it matches the song; they seem connected but at the same time so far apart.

The wardrobe is also amazing for both Florrie and her male partner. It oozes style and trend. Florrie really reminds me of Nina Persson from The Cardigans in some of the shots. Florrie really does know how to create a trendy video.

The video really has a great atmosphere, it's sinister, it's trendy and it's hot. The immaculate settings and poses by Florrie and her partner are particularly interesting just like in the "Seashells" video. It continues this trendy yet bizarre feel Florrie has been creating with her music videos for "Sirens". Can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!

MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW: Lady Gaga- G.U.Y.

She's done it again! Lady Gaga has raised the bar with her new music video/short film for "G.U.Y." the latest single from her painfully underrated third album "ARTPOP". Remember the speculation that there was going to be a music video for every track? Well this is almost coming true as shown in the "G.U.Y." motion picture masterpiece. There are mini videos within the film for the tracks "ARTPOP" and "Venus" (still no sign of "Do What U Want" though- I was shaking waiting for that to pop up). Once again Lady Gaga has incorporated some amazing visuals in her video and I think this is more the focal point on the video. Unlike the "Telephone" music video this one doesn't have a clear plot which leaves the fans to interpret what's happening, which knowing Lady Gaga is her intent.
Anyway enough rambling and freaking out here is my review/interpretation of the video!

Chapter One: ARTPOP 

REVIEW
Possibly the most beautiful part of the video. A wounded Gaga caught up in someone else's fight struggling to make it to safety. The wardrobe and visuals are amazing here and the use of the track as a dramatic score is really clever. I have to say out of all her music videos this one has the most cinematic atmosphere.

INTERPRETATION
The whole idea of Gaga being caught up in someone else's fight immediately makes me think of the never-ending war between her fan-base (Little Monsters) and Katy Perry/Madonna's fan-bases. Lady Gaga doesn't like conflict, it goes against everything she stands for and some of the fights that goes on between the fan-bases are particularly upsetting to see for both her and other fans. The arrow stuck in Lady Gaga's heart could represent the pain and the hurt that these fan wars have caused her.
Another interpretation is  that the fighting businessmen are managers and paps constantly hassling her to come up with amazing songs and videos but not to represent anything, merely to generate some income for the record studios. (Not as heart-warming as the first interpretation but just as likely)


Chapter Two: VENUS

REVIEWThis part of the video carries on from the ARTPOP opener. Lady Gaga is helped to safety and worshipped. I love the marching of the men carrying Gaga to safety as it matches the beat of the track. This was my favourite track from the album so I'm particularly glad Gaga included this. The religion-like visuals are really nice as are the costumes and props. To top off this part of the video it stars the ladies from "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" which adds to the humour and picks up the tone a bit.

INTERPRETATION
Carrying on from the whole fan-base war idea, this part of the video could represent the way Lady Gaga enjoys being looked up to. The fans that admire and help her through dark times save her from the arguing business men and the violent stans.


Chapter Three: G.U.Y.
REVIEW
The part we'll all see on TV, this focuses less on the story and premise and more on visuals and dancing to make an eye-catching and rememberable video. There's more religious imagery of Gaga being pampered and dancing with a bow and arrow as well as her looking up to an Andy Cohen in the sky like a god. There's also scenes of her in a high-tech government-like room which every good movie needs. The video ends with Gaga looking at the camera in the arms of a muscular man. I think this will do great on TV, it's eye-catching and people seem to like that at the moment. But it acts as a great ending to the film.

INTERPRETATIONThis is more of a collage than anything, to make the video suitable for TV however it does continue all the ideas expressed above but I think this part definitely supports my idea about the businessmen as Gaga is seen shooting money at men in suits. It's all very badass!

After you've watched all that there's a 4 minute long credit sequence to the track "MANiCURE".

I love this video, I think it's great and full of ideas. Lady Gaga never disappoints when it comes to videos and visuals. The choice of "G.U.Y." as a single initially worried me however I think it might do ok with sufficient promotion, it is after all really catchy. Great work Gaga! Can't wait to see what else the ARTPOP era has to offer!

Florrie- Seashells: MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW

Today the flawless Florrie treated us by releasing her highly anticipated music video for her new track Seashells from her new EP called Sirens due to be released in April.
The music video for Seashells is a fantastic colour collage, constantly changing and forming. The video mainly shows Florrie surrounded by dancers in a dimly lit room (sometimes lit up quite bright) and dancing.

The video is almost like a ritual or party. It's bizarre and suits the song well. The dancers surrounding or worshipping Florrie make it really interesting and cool to watch. The choreography is amazing to watch from both Florrie and the dancers and it works with the colours and shapes really well creating a really dynamic video. Florrie also looks amazing in the video and has a lot of control and backbone.

With the release of the EP containing music videos for every track I really hope the rest of them follow in the footsteps of this one!

Iggy Azalea- Fancy: MUSIC VIDEO REVIEW

It's pancake day! And Iggy Azalea treated us with her new music video for Fancy the latest single from her upcoming and highly anticipated debut album The New Classic. The track features Charli XCX who also stars in the video.

The video starts off with Iggy (reading my blog) browsing for an outfit which she then wears to school. She's seen talking in front of her class in a debate with a school rival. The school scenes are great and show a variety of cool students with awesome fashion sense, the kind of fashion you wish more people were brave enough to try out. Iggy's outfit is also great.

 After this we see Charli XCX at a table with Iggy and some friends. We see even more amazing fashion. The style in this video is really cool which is typical of Iggy.
Afterwards Charli XCX demonstrates her cheerleading skills and we see shots of Iggy in a P.E lesson covering all the aspects of school life which is relatable to a young audience. If only real P.E was like this!

Iggy is also seen in a car with two of her friends who appear to be lovers while being chased by a lorry. These scenes make the video even more fun and amusing.
The same car then stops outside a party and Iggy and Charli enter together and join the party. These scenes are really cool and give the pair even more street cred.

More scenes are shown showing the rivalry between Iggy and "the other bitch" with Iggy of course winning. The scenes are great as they show Iggy is not to be messed with. We also see Iggy being admired in class which adds to Iggy's fab "I'm the coolest" persona.
The video concludes with more scenes of Iggy in the car with her friendly couple celebrating and laughing as the lorry which was chasing them passes.

Overall the video was great and really fun. It's another example of Iggy's great style and visual ideas. The setting is great and relatable and covers all aspects of school life ensuring there's something for everyone. Here's hoping the rest of her videos follow in the same path!
